New York Fashion Week- FASHION:

In early Fall I was excited about two things: starting my first semester as a junior transfer at ‘SC and being able to join the fashion magazine—this magazine. And so for my first article, I give you my insights and recap of the semi-annual Mercedes Benz Fashion week that took place this past September. Even though I wasn’t present to see the shows first-hand (mind you, I plan to someday!), I was fortunate enough to watch the shows from Hulu.com and view all the collections on Elle. cam.
This year, over 300 designers attended; the likes of Marc Jacobs, Michael Kars, Ralph-Lauren, and Badg ley Mischka. In addition to the big designer names, up and coming designers such as Project Runway’s winner, Chris-tian Siriano, made an appearance and contributed a lot to the recurring theme of trends we saw throughout all the shows. What stood out for inc most were about six trends for Spring 2012.
New York Fashion Week
Designers this season seemed to be pushing bright colors—and lots of it, covering models in bright blues, greens, reds, etc. Long flowy bottoms seemed to be sweeping up the runways as models strutted by. In addi-tion to bright colors, a few designers; namely BCBG Max-azria and Perry Ellis dabbled a bit with the color-blocking technique. A trend that I’m still not even sure will take off too well. Along with the color-blocking, BCBG Maxazria also experimented with cut-outs in geometric shapes, exposing parts of skin in various places. The hit that resonated with me besides the bouts of bright color was the ombre trend. I’ve been going through the process of ombre with my hair for the past year and a half—going in and out of my colorist’s salon constantly trying to get I my hair to shades that complimented my roots and I’ve got to say, I have wondered a bit if the trend would die before I was finally satisfied with it. It made me a little sad, thinking all the noo visits I did in the past would all be in vain—no pun intended. So naturally, a wide smile came across my face when I saw Tadashi Shoji, Michael Kors, and a ton of other designers models walk down the runway with ombre on their clothes. At least my hair will last throughout next spring, that way I can wait to put more feathers into my hair (you all know that the thin feather trend is on hiatus till late 2012—we plucked all the chickens! Probably also anoth-er reason why I didn’t really see any of the designers use it on their models). The last trend that I noticed was the overall coupling of outfits designers had on the models; the whole juxtaposition of soft and hard. The models would have on edgy, chic blouses and jackets finished off with sweeping skirts and feminine oxfords. To get more into detail about howl saw all these trends let’s look at somedesigners and their shows.
